Go Public with Your Plan

Research has shown that people are more likely to honor their commitments when they share them with others. Telling at least one other person what you intend to do is a way to help ensure that you’ll follow through. Tell your manager, your coach or a close colleague what actions you intend to take and when you will take them. Make an agreement to meet with that person at a certain time to review your progress.

Share the following with the person or people you choose:

  • Your top priorities and your reasons for choosing them
  • Your goals, the benefits of achieving those goals, the actions you will take for achieving goals, and your timetable
  • The people who will provide feedback and support as you work toward your goals
