In January, the Harvard Business Review published a special issue plugged as “Transforming Leaders”.
The HBR team worked hard to assemble up-to-the-moment articles about leadership transitions from key scholars, including Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner. Their article "To Lead, Create a Shared Vision," reminds us that "Leaders must ask, “What’s new? What’s next? What’s better?” —but they can’t present answers that are only theirs.” It is vital for leaders to connect with constituents regularly to gain a sense of their answers to these questions as well. It is only upon hearing these thoughts that leaders can begin to formulate a vision for all to follow. No matter what economic, personnel, and technological transitions leaders face, they can always benefit from this nugget of wisdom.
