Tips for Leaders

Coach your leaders with these tips as you help them identify actions they will take to practice or improve their effectiveness in Modeling the Way, specifically the LPI behavior, “I am clear about my philosophy of leadership.” Ask your leaders to:

? Review their personal values; in one paragraph that begins with “I believe….” write down what they believe is important about their leadership.

? On an index card, write down one point of their leadership philosophy. At the end of the week, write on the back of the card how they lived this out.

? Write a short personal leadership mission statement and hang it in clear sight.

? Schedule a time to record their philosophy of leadership; listen to it again to ensure it is clear and concise.

? Create a wiki that outlines what they believe are the shared values of their team or constituents. Have members of the team or organization create, amend, or improve the published content. Use the feedback to test the leaders’ notions of leadership clarity.
