Research has shown that people are more likely to honor their commitments when they share them with others. Telling at least one other person what you intend to do is a way to help ensure that you’ll follow through. Tell your manager, your coach or a close colleague what actions you intend to take and when you will take them. Make an agreement to meet with that person at a certain time to review your progress.
Share the following with the person or people you choose:
- Your top priorities and your reasons for choosing them
- Your goals, the benefits of achieving those goals, the actions you will take for achieving goals, and your timetable
- The people who will provide feedback and support as you work toward your goals
