As a new Certified Master of The Leadership Challenge® I am continuing to hone my competence in all things related to the principles and Practices of this powerful model. I owe it to myself and those I will ultimately train and coach to identify my values, what I stand for, and to articulate those beliefs in a way that is both honest and compelling. In this ongoing process, my Credo is currently formulated around the following four statements:
- I believe in delivering excellence. If it’s worth doing, let’s do it right the first time.
- I believe the best choices come from the unbiased truth. Let’s be sure we work from reality and not speculation.
- I believe we all deserve lots of chances to try, to fail, and to improve. Let’s work to judge ourselves and others less, and lead with grace.
- I believe wild ideas create wild success. Let’s commit to exploring beyond our own knowledge and taking action in creative new ways.
|My Core Values||My Highest El Competencies|
|Quality|| Self-Regard, Social Responsibility
|Truth|| Reality Testing, Problem Solving
|Empathy|| Empathy, Realty Testing, Self-Regard
|Innovation|| Self-Actualization, Problem Solving
In my role as Vice President of Leadership Development at First Command Financial Services, The Leadership Challenge® serves as the core operating system for all of our leadership development efforts while we also incorporate a variety of other tools, including the EQ-i 2.0. Specifically, we connect leaders’ results from the LPI360 to the EQ-i 2.0 in order to help them better understand WHY they show up for others the way they do. Across the organization, making this correlation helps us reshape and refine our leadership dialog and development. In fact, holding the research of The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership® model in one hand while considering the emotional intelligence competencies assessed in the EQ-i 2.0 in the other has helped me shape and refine my own thinking as a leader as well.
My leadership credo is complete and comes easily to me now. Through the combined insight of the LPI 360 and the EQ-i 2.0 instruments, I clearly understand and believe in my leadership credo. And best of all, others tell me it is easy to see my values come to life in my daily actions and words. Great feedback to know that I am Modelling the Way with my values and actions fully aligned.
